Bamboo Powder in Skin Care

Bamboo powder is another one of our amazing ingredients that I’d like to tell you more about!

We use it in our microdermabrasion honey mask. This mask is already packed full of tropical ingredients, including Borneo rainforest honey, but I believe it’s the super-fine bamboo powder that tops it off and helps all the goodness from those ingredients to be fully absorbed.

Known for its strength, longevity and flexibility, bamboo is a prime eco resource. Technically it’s a giant exotic grass, and it’s one of the fastest growing plants on Earth. Certain species can grow up to 91cm in 24 hours, creating beautiful, towering bamboo forests. It’s one of the most readily renewable and sustainable plant resources, as once it’s cut, the root system sends out new shoots for re-growth without any need for it to be replanted. It grows all over the world in natural environments without the need for any fertilisers or pesticides. It gives off 35% more oxygen then trees and has a huge variety of uses, such as for clothing fibres, building material, food and medicine.

When it comes to skin care, bamboo powder is special as not only are its superfine smooth grains perfect for gentle natural microdermabrasion, but they also contain extremely large amounts of natural silica.

Silica:

  • helps strengthen and tighten the skin, reducing the appearance of sagging and bagging.

  • naturally absorbs dirt and bacteria from the skin, helping to cleanse and clear clogged pores.

  • is a gentle abrasive, helping to exfoliate the top layers of skin for glowing younger looking skin and better absorption of other ingredients.

  • naturally retains moisture, keeping skin looking supple and fresh.

Bamboo is also a powerful antioxidant, which helps protect the skin against free radicals and repairs UV damage. It’s also effective in treating acne, as it’s super gentle and creates a healthy environment on the surface of your skin. That means you can exfoliate daily without causing irritation to the pores.

We love this eco-sustainable ingredient and can’t wait to include it in more products soon!
